VLORA

Ms. Vlora Çitaku is the newly appointed Secretary General of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), ascending to this prestigious role after serving as the Vice President of the party. Her dynamic political journey is characterized by her deep-rooted dedication to Kosovo's sovereignty and development, which she has championed both domestically and on the international stage.

DISTINGUISHED DIPLOMATIC SERVICE

Before her current leadership role, Ms. Çitaku served as the Ambassador of Kosovo to the United States from 2015 to 2021. She presented her credentials as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United States on September 17, 2015.

Prior to her posting in Washington DC, Ambassador Çitaku was the Consul General of the Republic of Kosovo's Mission in New York. This period marked a significant milestone in her two decades of service in state-building and diplomatic efforts, continuing her lifelong commitment to Kosovo's freedom and independence.

EARLY LIFE:

Ambassador Çitaku's resolve stems from her experiences during the Kosovo War in the late 1990s, where she initially worked as a public relations officer with the OSCE Kosovo Verification Mission. Her personal trials, including displacement at 18 years old and becoming a refugee, profoundly shaped her resolve to serve her nation. Following the war, she was appointed Chief of Protocol of the Kosovo Provisional Government and later became the spokesperson for the Democratic Party of Kosovo.

PUBLIC SERVICE

Ms. Çitaku's political acumen led her to serve two terms as a member of the Parliament of Kosovo, becoming one of the youngest elected representatives at 22 years old and the most voted female candidate at the time. Her leadership extended to her role as the Head of the Communications Working Group of the Unity Team, playing a critical role in Kosovo's status negotiations led by President Martti Ahtisaari.

Her executive capacities were further demonstrated as she held the positions of Kosovo's Deputy Foreign Minister, Acting Foreign Minister, and Minister of European Integration. Additionally, she excelled as the Chief Negotiator for the Stability Association Agreement with the European Union, significantly advancing Kosovo's European agenda.

CONTINUED ADVOCACY AND ENGAGEMENT

Throughout her illustrious career, Ambassador Çitaku has been a staunch advocate for the rights and integration of minority communities in Kosovo. Her efforts underscore her commitment to the well-being and prosperity of all Kosovo's inhabitants.

EDUCATION AND INTERNATIONAL REPRESENTATION

Ms. Çitaku is an accomplished scholar, holding a Master's degree in Journalism from the Kosovo Institute of Journalism and Communication after graduating from the University of Prishtina's School of Philology. Her linguistic proficiency spans four languages, enhancing her diplomatic engagements and international collaboration.
